We love hearing about what inspires our wonderful supporters, so we’re inviting our Great North Runners to talk us through their training goals, tips and times to beat.
Here’s what Garry had to say:
Why did you choose to do the Great North Run in support of us?
‘My family have raised funds every year since 2005 after experiencing the great work they do first-hand when my son’s girlfriend Amie Fenton was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2004. Both my family and Amie’s were always welcomed when Amie came to visit Martin House.
I am 65 years old and came back to running three years ago. My fundraising for Martin House in the past has mainly been music based, so I decided to challenge myself (I have done the Great North Run twice, I have never run that far before, or since). I am happy and excited to take part and hopefully raise much needed funds for Martin House.’
Where is your favourite place to run?
‘I take part in the Park Run on Saturday mornings. Thornes Park in Wakefield is my favourite place to run.’
Favourite running music?
‘I have a broad interest in music, I’m a big fan of Queen, ABBA and Robbie Williams.’
Top training tip?
‘Make sure you plan your run before you set off.’
What will you be having for your pre-race breakfast?
‘I will have only drink water, nothing solid.’
Have you ever done the Great North Run before?
‘Yes, twice.’
Do you have a social media account or JustGiving page?
‘Yes, you can still donate to my JustGiving page.’
If you are running for us in the Great North Run, you can tell us about your own training, goals and tips by filling in our Great North Run profile form.
